A day in the life…

Time, Time again. 10, November 2011

I am calling this post ‘time’. Its what I have a little bit more of, now that our little pumpkin is 5 months old.

We Ferberized him. If you don’t know what that means, you probably don’t have kids. Dr.Ferber has published books on his sleep method.  We let him ‘cry it out’ at nighttime, as he was waking up 5 or 6 times/night. He now wakes up 1 or 2 times/night, which leaves us all better rested.  He can also put himself down for naps, and takes longer naps, now that we’ve trained him on this method.

Its a very controversial method…in fact, our pediatrician basically told us not to do it.  And some of the mommy groups I belong to told me the same thing.  But having a family that sleeps well at night means everyone is nicer to each other during the day.  I think its worth it.

On a different note…we joined the Y today. And Matteo went to the daycare.  Not one tear!! I worked out, went to get him, where he was in the arms of a daycare teacher, happy as a clam.  Phew!

Here’s to more time to do more posting…and more interesting posts to boot.

Do you remember the show Mad About You? There was a great episode when they first let their baby cry it out. Showed how hard it is for the parents. But, oh, I remember how grateful I was for decent sleep. Families don’t do well when no one sleeps.

  2. Congrats on the successful sleep training! I think you did it at an ideal age too. We started training Coz around 7 months (then went on a 2 week vacation and had to re-do it around 8 months, then he got sick 3 times that spring, and well… here we are). In any case, I think doing it before he can stand up is important. Coz would be so tired but would insist on standing up and holding the sides of the crib, so then he’d REALLY wake up. He still does this in fact. The next baby we’re going to get our act together when s/he is 3-5 months. OR maybe we’ll luck out and get a good sleeper. Some people really do get those, right? And now it sounds like you might have one. Though you have yourselves to thank for getting through that difficult task. Mazel mazel! Well done, momma and papa!
